Artist in Residence

TEACHER

Artscope is searching for skilled artists with a passion for education to serve as a part-time contracted Teaching Artist in Residence. This program embeds local studio artists in area schools, providing students access to high-quality arts-education from accomplished local artists.

This position includes all the duties of a fully immersed school teacher: classroom space, curriculum planning, independent classroom leadership, and working alongside school staff.

About the position:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Art Instruction to take place at Marian Middle School, grades 6-8th
Submit grades through prescribed systems 1x/semester for 6,7 and 8 grade students
Maintenance and ordering of an art room and art room backstock
Develop and deliver engaging and innovative art curriculum Foster creativity and artistic expression among students, nurture their growth and confidence in the arts.
Keep accurate records of lesson plans, student progress, and other administrative tasks as required
Collaborate with classroom teachers and school staff to integrate art education into the broader curriculum.
Participation in up to 6 professional development days (not to exceed 8 hours per day)
Periodically submit images of student work to Artscope
Attend scheduled Artscope meetings
Manage classroom dynamics and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Other tasks assigned by Artscope

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Arts Education, or related field.
Experience in teaching art workshops/classes for K-8 students or relevant age groups.
Proficiency in one or more art forms (e.g., painting, drawing, sculpture etc.).
Commit to working weekly schedule Monday-Friday during the academic year (August 2026 through May 2027) between 6-15 hours/week (position’s current schedule at Marion Middle School has been Tuesday and Thursday 12:00 pm-3:00 pm)
Strong communication skills to engage with students, teachers, and parents.
Flexibility to adapt teaching methods for diverse learners.
Passion for inspiring creativity and nurturing students' artistic expression.
Collaborative mindset to work effectively with teachers and school staff.
Cultural sensitivity and ability to incorporate diverse perspectives.
Patience and empathy in guiding students' artistic growth.
Demonstrated classroom management skills.
Access to a reliable method of transportation to and from partner school site assignment
Artscope requires all artists to pass a background check and maintain CPR certification

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS

Starting pay is $30 per hour for Teaching Artists in Residence. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, experience, and other factors.
