Summer Camp Create at the Cottage
for rising kindergartners - 5th grade
Artscope's Summer Camp Create features expert visual art instruction by Artscope's experienced teaching artists, special guests artists, lots of screen-free outdoor play, and supervised exploration of magical Tower Grove Park. We emphasize reducing our footprint by using natural, recycled and upcycled materials for our art. Each week a different theme.
Week One Theme:
Things Are Looking Up

June 5th - June 9th

What's Up! Artwork that is entirely based on what’s above, igniting our imaginations, allowing us to create artwork from unique perspectives.
Week Two Theme:
Text(ures) Me Back

June 12th - June 15th
The tactile possibilities are endless! From scaly bubble wrap to fluffy felt; learn to add another sensory layer to your work of art! Get ready for a soft, squishy, scratchy, and bouncy week while we traverse touch and texture through the use of found and recycled materials.
Week Three Theme:
A Space Odyssey

June 19th - June 23rd
One thing we know about space is that we don't know much about it (fun fact: we only understand about 5%- the other 95% is a mystery!) We’ll use light, mixed media, collage, and found objects to explore the mystery of space, and beyond…
Week Four Theme:
Under The Sea

June 26th - June 30th
Did you know that 70% of Earth's surface is covered in water, but more than 80% of our oceans are unmapped? Do you ever wonder what goes on under the sea? We’ll explore character development, color theory, and various water-based media in this wet and wild camp!
Week Five Theme:
Tangled Jungle

July 10th - July 14th
Come hang out with us (get it?!!) in the lush green jungle of Tower Grove Park... Paper manipulation, line-work, age appropriate cutting techniques, and more we will find ways to bring the jungle's plant and animal kingdoms to South St. Louis!
Week Six Theme:
Mythical Creatures

July 17th - July 21st
Beyond our realm lies the eternally unknown... We will create mythos and explore our newly-minted creatures through artistic expression, including mask making, collage, and on site exploration of the natural landscapes of Tower Grove Park.
Week Seven Theme:
Bugging Out

July 24th - July 28th
Calling all crawlers, jumpers, web-weavers and beyond! Do you love the way a beetle’s skin shines? How do spiders build a web? How many cicadas can you find? Art created in this camp will be based on all things buggy!
Week Eight Theme:
Nature Works

July 31st - August 4th
Does anything go together better than art and nature? We will use the beauty of Tower Grove Park and the work of naturalist artists like Andy Goldsworthy, Aldo Leopold, and Bob Ross to create nature centric artwork and installations throughout the park.
Week Nine Theme:
Art In Motion

August 7th - August 11th

Create art that is inspired by motion! We will use sculpture, movement, nontraditional painting styles, and more as inspiration for some funky abstract creations. This camp is for the movers and shakers!
Week Ten Theme:
Sound & Vision

August 14th - August 18th

How do you draw a sound? We will use sound to inspire our creative visions; transporting us to our wildest daydreams! Sounds of Tower Grove Park, Arsenal Street, birds, bands, neighbors walking by all serve as inspiration as we explore the connection between the world around us and the art we make.
Summer Camp Create at
Chesterfield Montessori School
for rising kindergarten - 5th graders
Week One Theme:
Mythical Creatures

July 3rd - July 7th
Beyond our realm lies the eternally unknown… and the eternally discoverable!!! Explore the forests of your mind, and build the creature of your wildest dreams through collage, plaster manipulation, roundtable discussion, and so much more in this four day camp! Does your dream creature live in the woods behind Chesterfield Montessori, or maybe in the stream? Let's find out!
Week Two Theme:
The Science and Story of Puppets

July 10th - July 14th
Come with us as we probe the world of manipulable art, character representation, and purposeful movement in this five day camp. Students will work to bring the worlds of design, engineering and storytelling together through various puppet-theater techniques, led by our puppet-crazed Artscope Teaching Artists!
Week Three Theme:
Illustrations and Cartooning

July 17th - July 21st
In this technique-based camp, students will build skills in illustration and cartooning through bookmaking, animation, line work, shading, perspective, set design and all things 2-D (ish). All levels welcome, and wild imagination encouraged!
Summer Camp Create at the Stupp Center

Week Two Theme:
Mythical Creatures

July 31st - August 4th
